Position: Educational Test Item Writer (ETW) – Full Time Location: Greater Toronto Area - Work is remote for the duration of the current public health crisis but may possibly relocate to our downtown office (151 Bloor St. West) when the situation improves Job Summary We're looking for an experienced test item writer to write items for professional licensing exams. The Educational Test Item Writer (ETW) will develop original assessment items (e.g. multiple-choice questions) using industry textbooks to exact specifications and educational standards. The ETW will also review and improve questions submitted by third-party subject matter experts. The ETW will use statistical evidence to improve the performance of test items and the overall test item portfolio. The ETW must have a sound knowledge of test item development theory and demonstrated experience writing test items. The successful individual will have excellent analytical, writing and organizational skills and will have an excellent reputation for integrity and discretion. We are not interested in solicitations from agencies or companies. Key Responsibilities and Accountability The Educational Test Item Writer is responsible for: Developing original educational assessment items based on specific text passages and learning outcomes Designing quality test items written to required specifications and standards Revising written items based on received feedback Providing feedback to subject matter experts as part of a quality improvement process Applying rules of grammar, composition, etc. to the development of items Generating/reviewing statistical reports with the goal of improving test item performance Producing test items according to a schedule and in a steady workflow Demonstrating a high level of productivity and accountability Contributing to the organization, maintenance and integrity of question banks Working remotely in a collaborative environment Fostering respectful relationships with colleagues Required Experience and Knowledge Bachelor's degree or higher in education or educational measurement 3+ years of experience writing educational assessment items for adults Knowledge of best practices for constructing multiple-choice items Ability to focus on the details required to produce quality, standard-specific items Excellent communication and time-management skills Experience writing technical content test items Technical proficiency with test authoring and LMS software such as Blackboard, Canvas, Camtasia, Captivate, Moodle or proprietary LMS Exhibit high-quality proofreading skills and typing accuracy, strong written and verbal communication skills Proficient in MS applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and and Google docs Bi-lingual (English/French) proficiency is an asset Successful candidates must provide photo identification, pass a police background check, be legally eligible to work in Canada and provide two references Expected start date: 2021-08-03 Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Salary: $55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year Benefits: Casual Dress Dental Care Employee Assistance Program Extended Health Care Paid Time Off Schedule: 8 Hour Shift Monday to Friday COVID-19 considerations: Meetings are all held virtually via video-conferencing.
